Silver Dollar Coins
Each of the various incarnations of the silver dollar coins have eventually reached the fate described by ease of use compared to paper money. The decline was steady over a long period of time as people became accustomed to using paper money in place of the single dollar denominations.
While the use of coins for amounts smaller than one dollar are as convenient as they have always been, the use of silver dollars in everyday monetary transactions today has long since been replaced.

So many of these coins have spent literally decades safely tucked away in the homes of collectors out of harms way only to surface in times of high value to be offered for sale.
